Vocational Nursing
Licensed Vocational Nursing Program

The Vocational Nursing Program is a full-time one year program. It is also designed to allow students to transition from Licensed Vocational Nursing Program to the Associate Degree Nursing Program (A.D.N.). After completing the one-year program, LVN graduates who have completed all A.D.N. prerequisites are eligible to apply to the A.D.N. program (to become a Registered Nurse).

The college admits students into the Vocational Nursing Program twice a year in January and June. Other pre-requisites include Biology -60 lecture, pharmacology (VN225/A.D.N. 225), and Transitions to Vocational Nursing 220/220L. Many of these sections are offered both on-line and on campus. VN240 Mental Health class is not a pre-requisite, but highly recommended to complete while finishing other pre-requisite courses.

Students who are certified nursing assistants (C.N.A.) or students who successfully complete VN215/215L Fundamentals of Nursing course have met one of the prerequisites on the way to applying to the VN program. At the completion of the VN program, the graduate is qualified to take the national council licensing examination for vocational-practical nursing (NCLEX-VN/PN).

Information sessions are conducted on the 2nd Tuesday of the month from 4:00-5:00pm LAC campus, Bldg. C- Health Science Bldg. room C101. No information meetings will be held in January, June, July or August. All interested candidates must attend one mandatory information meeting prior to acceptance to the program. During the information sessions, the program director will provide up to date information and assistance.

* All nursing programs require students to have a clear background check, health evaluation and immunizations, malpractice insurance, and a CPR card for Health Care providers- AED (American Heart Assoc. only), as well as other requirements imposed by clinical training agencies.
